Day 3 - Gingerbread and ... laundry?

Because Target rocks, I was able to pick up ginger without having to back to the grocery store. Happy me! So tonight I'll be doing gingerbread and some laundry*. So if you don't see me for a spell, I'm wrestling with my hamper in the laundry room downstairs.

*Sorry...I'm out of clean towels and clean panties. One of those things I can skip tomorrow morning. The other I won't. I'll let you guess which is which. ;)

Ugggity ugh ugh

Even the vixen shirt couldn't help this night.

I have no ginger; therefore, gingerbread was a nogo. So I made regular sugar cookie cutout dough and popped it into the fridge to chill.

The oatmeal batter came out really...creamy. But I still had a good time.

Tomorrow night I'm writing out Christmas cards, so I'll be back on Thursday. :)

Live again!

I'm baaaaaack. Tonight I'm making gingerbread sugar cookie dough* to chill for tomorrow and some oatmeal cookies. So pull up a chair and grab a Dew. I'll be here until 9:30/10:00 and may turn Yahoo IM on later on. My 'handle' is ladygypsy.

&*@#^*@&&!!! I don't have ginger here. Been restocking on spices and apparently forgot that liiiiiiitle detail. Grrr..

7:40pm: The sugar cookie dough will chill overnight. Going to lose the Santa hat now that I'm preheating the oven...I actually have my windows open, even though it's 46 degrees.

8:55pm: Something wicked this way bakes. Maybe it's the overdone Tom Bergeron hosting the making of the Grinch on ABC. But the oatmeal cookies look...wrong. The batter's a bit creamy, but they taste okay. Weird.

Day 1 wrapup

I must admit I was a skosh nervous about the whole setup. But I think this is the easiest and most convenient cookiecam setup I've had yet. Below, you see what I see. And yes, those are vintage crinkly plastic Christmas decorations stuck to my windows. Thank the Lord for those 3M command strips.

I can see my desktop pc from the kitchen ("It's all part 'n parcel of the whole single-girl gig: PHENOMINAL COOKIE POWERS!!!! Eeeetibity living space!") so I can see if the site gets borked somehow. I only lost connection once, and was back up in less than 60 seconds. Setting up the kitchen only required brining in the old IKEA table that I never got off my lazy ass to return this summer and raising it up to work level. For that, I used four 97-cent crates I bought at Wal-mart. I thought Martha would be proud, until I remembered that she was K-Mart. D'oh!

Finally, it was time to get down to business.

The snickerdoodles baked up really quickly (this year, I'm baking with gas, baby!) so I had time to do some peanut butter blossoms as well. Only one minor casualty.

I did find this warning on a stick of Crisco shortening quite disturbing. Would anyone really truly TRY that?

Now that I got my mojo going (and thank you for the lovely comments...I'll pretend I wasn't a publicity whore and didn't email you all) I'll be back at 7pm tomorrow night.

Current score: Kim 2, Cookies 0
Casualties: None
Total Amount of butter used since the start of CookieCam: 1/2 cup

Let the baking begin!

In a little town in South Jersey.
In a high-rise apartment building
In a tiny apartment
In a tiny kitchen...

Stands one woman, alone.

For the fifth year straight, she will turn on a webcam and begin to bake cookies. A tradition passed onto her from the women in her family.

She will bake, and be pleased.
She will burn, and be burned.
She will curse, but you will not hear her, for thankfully there is no audio.

Her name is Kim. And this is CookieCam, 2006.
