No time today
Hey, CookieCrumbs. Sorry to say, I won't be baking today. I have a place to be in a few hours, and some (more) painting to be done in the meantime. Come back tomorrow, Saturday, 12/11 for more fun, hijinks, and burning!

$^$#*#$^&!!!
Wouldn't you know it...just as I'm getting ready to end the night, I bump into the table, sending a whole rack of peanut butter blossoms crashing to the floor.

Max licked a lot of the chocolate off of the floor before I could get my Swiffer, which will only act to hasten his impending death from earlier.

The webcam catches my privacy-conscious husband, affectionately known as "Thor" as he gathers me close for a Christmas smooch. Well, I *do* taste like sugar and peanut butter...Tall, isn't he?
Cookiebaking tonight was uneventful, which is uncommon. The peanut butter blossoms usually take a LONG time for the kisses to solidify, so once the last batch of peanut butter cookies (sans blossom) are out of the oven, I'm done for the night.
Tomorrow I'm off. So this means there will be afternoon CookieCam. When? Well, I'm not sure yet, since we still have a guest room to finish before the guests arrive in < 2 weeks. Keep checking back through the day. I'll let you know.
Epiphany
Tonight I remembered that I have a kick-butt MIXER that Mom got me last Christmas. One of those high-powered Artisan models. This mixer can be used in the war on terror - it's that strong.
I've deemed tonight peanut butter night. Peanut butter blossoms now and peanut butter cookies after.
And that is NOT a bottle of Captain Morgan on my counter. Nope. No way.
Let's bid a fond farewell to my dog Max, who managed to snuffle through my briefcase and eat my hidden Hershey's Special Dark chocolate bar. He'll probably be dead by morning. No, he won't. He should justifiably be dead 3 or 4 times by now.

I'm just leaving work now...and I need to pick up peanut butter. And get the dog walked.
So I'll be on at 8:30. Okay? :)
In the meantime, check out Leslie Harpold's 2004 Advent Calendar. I look forward to this every year!

Day 3 of CookieCam 2004 will go down in the annals as the day I remembered how much easier it is to bake with parchment paper. It keeps the cookie sheets clean. It helps the cookies bake better, and it makes me feel so much more professional.
Once I bought the necessary cinnamon, I could finish making my snickerdoodles. I love making snickerdoodles. They look great. They taste great, and they're very difficult to destroy. Even that pesky Russian judge would give me at least a 9.2 for my snickerdoodles. The only little fallacy was that I made them a bit on the large side, giving me only 2 dozen instead of 3 dozen.
Next, I moved onto gingerbread people. I think Gingerbread may be an aquired taste. I hated it as a girl but now it's among my favorite cookies to eat. I baked a whole commune of gingerbread people. As you can see below, I started to grow bored by the end.

Tomorrow night I'll decorate the gingerbread commune and the snowflakes from last night. 8pm EST.

Acclimation
I found out tonight that good Christmas Music does wonders to increase cookiebaking aptitude and morale. First, I mixed up a batch of snickerdoodles and popped them into the fridge to chill.
Remember the dough from last night? Hard. As. A. Rock. Luckily, with a lot of rough kneading it softened nicely. I decided to break in my new Wilton snowflake cookie cutters. The first batch went in the oven at 9:00, and although they were supposed to be in for 7-8 minutes, mine didn't look done yet, so I left them in for 12. I added an extra egg last night, so maybe that was a factor.

Both trays came out well, to my delight. Removing them from the cookie sheet posed a small challenge. Here's what I learned. If you try to slide your spatula underneath one skinny protrusion (could be an 'arm' of a snowflake, a point of a star, a leg on a gingerbread man) chances are it'll break off. If you slide the spatula underneath more than one 'point,' the pressure is displaced more evenly, and breakage probably won't occur.
Once they were done, I took the snickerdoodle dough out of the fridge. To finish them off, you roll them into small spheres, and roll the spheres into a mixture of cinnamon and sugar. But, to my horror, I had no cinnamon in the house!

So I popped them back into the fridge to bake tomorrow night. The snowflakes were still warm, so I didn't want to frost them yet. That'll wait for tomorrow night as well.
The 8:00 time worked well for me, because I didn't feel like I had to rush home and jump right into the kitchen. I'll probably stick with that time for the duration.
Tomorrow's shopping list: Cinnamon, molasses, butter
Tomorrow's start time: 8:00pm EST

I got carried away with some number-crunching at work. Yeah, it's possible. So tonight CookieCam goes LIVE from 8:00pm EST to around 10:00pm EST!

So far, so meh...
The sugar cookie dough was dry. I mean really dry. I mean -- powdery dry. So I added some more butter and an additional egg to keep it moist. That dough is chilling now, and I'll bake them tomorrow.
My smoke alarm has only gone off once. New house - same hijinks. ;)
These chocolate chip cookies are the ugliest I've ever seen. They're like...circus cookies. No, wait. These are freak-show caliber cookies - the kind of cookies you hope your kids never ever see. They're huge. And greasy. Darn. I have NO idea what the cookie gods have against me tonight, but I am humbled in their midst.

I'll be back online tomorrow at 7:30pm EST. Friday, I'll be baking in the morning and afternoon, trying to get caught up.
(shakes off the bad baking night)
And...we're live!

Hello! Welcome to another season of CookieCam! No time or desire to bake this year? No problem! Get those cookies from the bakery and live vicariously through me as I mess up recipes, burn cookies, and burn myself! All in front of your very eyes due to the power of the Internets!
This is my third year doing this crazy project. The first thing past viewers will notice is that I'm in a new kitchen! Yes, we've escaped the dingy apartment of the last 2 years (although I was in there for 7) and are now in a beautiful house. With a lot more room!
Click on the picture on the right to open the cookiecam window (turn off your pop up blocker). It'll refresh automatically every 30 seconds.
That's about all you need to know. That, and I don't do a skirt and heels every night.
Let's make some average cut-out dough and some chocolate chip cookies tonight!

Welcome to CookieCam 2004, where baking Christmas Cookies gets a 21st century twist! A webcam is pointed at me whilst I bake and captures an image every 30 seconds.
To see the cam when it's live, click on "CookieCam" over on the left hand side. That page opens in its own window, so be sure to disable any pop up blockers.
This page is where you'll find the play by play of when the cookies go into the oven, when they come out, and how I injure myself during each batch.
To learn more about CookieCam, check out my CookieCam FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions). And I've also kept last year's CookieCam information up as well.
While I'm live, you can email me at cookiecam@ladygypsy.net or messge "cookiecamlady" on Yahoo Instant Messenger!
