Archive | I diet

I’m not heavy, but I could be thinner. Unfortunately, I love to eat.

Currently (post-party edition)

Today was my nephew’s birthday party. It was Daniel Tiger themed, and if you are a person of a certain age and aren’t exposed to Daniel Tiger, it’s adorable. It’s animated, but it’s a Mr. Rogers Neighborhood of Make Believe, next generation. It’s based around the children of the citizens of the Neighborhood of Make Believe. Too cute for words.

The party was lovely, and I ate responsibly. I miss shoving multiple slices of cake in my cakehole, but it’s okay. Because I’m…

Losing: 24 pounds and counting. The pound-and-a-half this week was a welcome surprise. I’m down 1 to 3 sizes (I hate how things are sized these days) but I’m not buying anything new until I get closer to summer. I’ll just use rope to keep my pants up.

Polished: I was going to do my beloved Lincoln Park After Dark, but when I opened the bottle, the polish was all dried out. Booooooooooo! That’s what I get for biting my nails for years. I settled for OPI Suzi Loves Cowboys, which is an equally old bottle but held up well.

Watching: WM has us watching Mountain Monsters (probably auto-play stupidity). This is the dumbest show on Destination America which is saying a lot. At this point I’m willing to go out there and shoot all of their stupid Bigfoot targets. (Bigfeet?) WM is amused to pieces by this show.

This rogue team “C QUAD?”…I hope it’s their wives screwing with them.

Reading: I’m about 100 pages away from finishing Jemisin’s The Kingdom of Gods and this weekend I bought Hamilton: The Revolution. I’m never going to see this cast perform this musical so this is the next best thing. This book even SMELLS great.

Cooking: I tried Mark Bittman’s chicken salad today. It’s good enough, but WM doesn’t like scallions and I don’t like celery, so I omitted them and it definitely needs some crunch. Maybe carrots?

Giving up: I have a cute photo of the party, but the WordPress 4.5 upgrade is tossing http errors when I try to upload photos. I don’t have an FTP client on my Surface yet (my bad) and it’s after 10pm so the Internet is out of luck.

Currently (suspicious Sunday edition)

Has anyone noticed that reCAPTCHA now shows home address numbers? It used to be squiggly passages from books and that was the original goal — to digitize books. Now Google is getting us to help with Street View and it’s just a bit creepy.

Jeez. Can this be any more evil?

Polished: This week is Essie Bikini So Teeny. It’s a lovely light blue with a beachy name. I cannot wait until beach season.

Watching: NOT SLEEPY HOLLOW. I had the whole season on DVR, waiting devour it all at once and then I read that … SOMEONE DIED and I am not pleased so FWOOM! It’s deleted. I’ll always have Season One and it’s amazing magic.

Max: Still alive. He puked yesterday after breakfast and I was a little nervous, but he bounced back.

Searching: For a new hair salon. AGAIN. And when I find it, I will bring the same picture of Drew Barrymore that I bring to every salon, and then get my hopes dashed. AGAIN.

Focusing: From time to time I get niggling little doubts that I am in over my head at TNP. I’m not. I know I’m not. I know exactly what I’m doing, and if there is something I don’t know how to do I make it a point to learn. This week (tomorrow especially) I have to double-down and knock some tasks off of my list.

Losing: 22.5 lbs and counting. That half-pound was hard won this week.

Reading: I FINALLY finished Hamilton, then devoured Caitlin Moran’s How to be a Woman, and now I’ve moved on to N.K. Jemisin’s The Kingdom of Gods. That’s the third book in her Inheritance Trilogy, and I slurp her writing up like chicken noodle soup.

Currently.. (Wrestlemania Sunday)

Watching: WRESTLEMANIA! We have the WWE network and stream it via the Playstation. I’ll be honest, other than New Day there wasn’t a storyline compelling enough that I would have spent the $60 for it this year. Luckily, $9.99 gives me all of the PPVs.

Polished: This week it’s Essie Master Plan. It’s been 4 weeks since I’ve stopped biting 90% of my nails (that pinky…) and it’s nice having a Sunday nail-polish routine. Maybe next month I’ll get a real manicure.

Max: Still alive, and after 9 months here in the house he has discovered that there are stairs that lead to the rest of the house. Because he’s mostly blind, we’ve duped him into thinking that the downstairs is it, because we don’t want him tumbling down the stairs. Luckily, he has a younger brother who sits atop the stairs and all Max has to do is follow his nose. Time to get the gate out.

This is Max, slowly figuring out that we've been deceiving him into thinking we only have one floor in the house.

Webkeeping: I made a new header! I know, right? It’s been ages! My next trick is to get some social media icons up there with the navigation. This is the blog that will not die. Mostly because there aren’t many blogs out there from women around my age anymore and eventually it’ll be left to me to carry the flag for the GenX ladies.

Reading: STILL READING HAMILTON. I think I’m about 100 pages from the end. I made a Goodreads goal to read 45 books this year and thanks to this behemoth, I’m behind.

Losing: 22 lbs and still counting! Wooooo! I’m not buying new duds until the current ones literally fall off. Saggy pants FTW!

Fading: The rosacea redness is definitely fading and I’m cautiously excited!

Eating: I’m loving Planters Nut-rition Blueberry Nut Protein Mix. I could eat the whole can in one sitting, but I’ll just stick to 1/4 cup at a time. 🙂

Freezing: It’s windy and cold here, and after a week of delightfully springy weather, I’m chilled.

Easter Sunday

Happy Easter! This weekend zoomed by in a puff of flour. I spent yesterday baking Easter bread and ham pies with mom…and then gave them all away, like the magnanimous person I am. Or rather, the person who would eat them all if they were still here.

I'm happy Max is here for another spring. It was touch-and-go for a bit.

Spending: Quality nephew time. He’s yummy.

Springing: The high temps have been scooting into the high 60s and low 70s lately. That with the clock change means I can sit in the yard after work.

Losing! Yo! I’m now down 21 lbs! (probably 20 now, thanks to the 3 pieces of Easter bread I quaffed tonight) And I’m not even halfway there yet. Ugh. (mood deflates)

Watching: Some more Fuller House. They need to recast DJ’s middle kid. He’s from the “SCREAMING = Cute” school of acting. Or send his character off to Judy Winslow’s boarding school. I hope DJ ends up with Matt, the cute veterinarian. I don’t remember Steve being such a manipulative twit.

Polished: This week’s Essie color is the new “Lounge Lover” It’s a little more hot pink than pinky peach, but I still love it.

OMG STILL READING: Hamilton. It’s not that it’s bad, it’s just so long! I’m only halfway through and my eloan is up tomorrow. Luckily, I have a paperback copy incoming. Unluckily, it’s too large to lug on the train every day, so it’ll be some at-home reading.

Working: Heavy on the meetings at work this week, but I think I’m taking a personal day on Friday.

Healing: I’m on my second week of Soolantra for rosacea. Week one was … difficult … as I’m apparently in the “it gets worse before it gets better!” camp. I’ve been loading on the moisturizer (jojoba oil in the morning and Cerave PM at night) and the redness and flaking are starting to subside. Thanks goodness.
