The weekend that wasn’t

27 Jul

Can I tell you about what a great weekend I was GOING to have?

We were going to go to the Xponential festival on Saturday, where we would have basked in the sun all day and taken in They Might Be Giants, among other neat bands.

And yeah, I said neat. They are neat.

Then today, we were going to have our usual Sunday breakfast at Starbucks, followed up by food shopping and I was going to bake the best from-scratch cupcakes ever. Chocolate cupcake, peanut butter frosting and Reeses’ cups level of good.

Given I had only baked cupcakes from scratch ONCE, these would have been guaranteed to be the best ever!

There would have been pictures galore of everything, taken with our nice GOOD camera. Perhaps even a nice new picture of me to replace Hostess whatever and my Facebook photo.

But alas, t’was not to be.

I started feeling sick on Friday and declined into a fevery stupor for the rest of the weekend.

Can’t go out and sit in 90-degree weather in full sun when you have a fever. (Well, I can’t…dunno about you.) Can’t bake cupcakes unless you want to infect your friends and loved ones.

So here is the only picture of what looked to be (through my window at least) the perfect summer weekend.

At least I have off Tuesday & Wednesday to make up for my craptastic weekend.

Odd little weekend

10 Aug

Friday night we stayed home and watched the Opening Ceremonies of the Olympics. You’ve read it everywhere else, so I’m being redundant when I say it was the most amazing Opening Ceremonies I have ever seen. My favorite part was the creation of the gigantic painting.

The plan yesterday was to go out to breakfast, get some errands done and hit Collingswood’s Craft Festival. But when I fell asleep in the car after breakfast, I knew things weren’t going to go as planned.
We came right home and I fell asleep on the sofa for close to 4 hours. I slowly started to feel alive again. I guess I needed the sleep?

I felt badly about missing the craft show, but we switched our plan to go today instead. I woke up excited. First, we hit Wegmans for the necessaries. But while we were there, the skies opened up and the thunder rolled. So…blah. We came right home and it rained a good part of the afternoon. Groceries were put away, laundry was done. I tried to sew my skirt, but during the process I realized I completely cut the fabric incorrectly, which would have resulted in a giant seam going down the front of my crazy polka dot skirt. Which would have worked – I think – if the dots were lined up properly down the front. Which of course, they weren’t. So I’ll pick up some more cheap fabric from JoAnn and try it again.

And that was my weekend. Maybe I’m just feeling down because this time last year we were about ready to go to Walt Disney World.
