Friday Five: Drops

1 Oct

I juuuuuust made it under the wire with this week’s Friday Five, didn’t I? Was home sick from work today and forgot it was Friday, believe it or not. I’m feeling better now, so here we go! This week we’re talking about drops.

1. What was the last thing you dropped on the kitchen floor?
I dropped a bottle of Bailey’s on the floor tonight. It didn’t break or crack, thank goodness. Mmmm…Bailey’s…

Funny thing on the Bailey’s website: they want you to like them on Facebook. I know I’m not the most private of people, but even *I* wouldn’t be so silly as to put out in front of God & country that I’m really a fan of a certain brand of alcohol. I know we all mention having a drink of wine or beer from time to time, but to commit to LIKING booze? Nah.

2. What cough drops do you like, and do they work very well?
My favorite used to be Pine Bros cough drops. They were cherry flavored and chewy and fantastic. But since all good things are discontinued, they’re gone now. These days I stick with Luden’s Honey Lemon Cough drops. They’re very soothy, if that’s a word.

3. Who was the last person you dropped off somewhere?
I dropped Mom off at the house after dinner on Wednesday.

4. When were you ever dropped like a bad habit?
My breakups were historically never that quick or blunt. They were long, drawn-out and weepy. Like detoxing instead of dropping. Like a band-aid pulling each individual hair off of your arm. Like shampoo dripping over your eyebrow and gently seeping into your eye.

5. What are your favorite kind of raindrops?
The really thick heavy ones that are common in summer storms. They make great ripples in puddles and really hit you with a plop. They usually mean (to me, the non-meteorologist) that the storm will be quick, too.

In other news not worthy of their own blog post, I discovered today that my middle fingers are crooked. I never noticed it until I grew my nails out. I’m so hot.

The weekend that wasn’t

27 Jul

Can I tell you about what a great weekend I was GOING to have?

We were going to go to the Xponential festival on Saturday, where we would have basked in the sun all day and taken in They Might Be Giants, among other neat bands.

And yeah, I said neat. They are neat.

Then today, we were going to have our usual Sunday breakfast at Starbucks, followed up by food shopping and I was going to bake the best from-scratch cupcakes ever. Chocolate cupcake, peanut butter frosting and Reeses’ cups level of good.

Given I had only baked cupcakes from scratch ONCE, these would have been guaranteed to be the best ever!

There would have been pictures galore of everything, taken with our nice GOOD camera. Perhaps even a nice new picture of me to replace Hostess whatever and my Facebook photo.

But alas, t’was not to be.

I started feeling sick on Friday and declined into a fevery stupor for the rest of the weekend.

Can’t go out and sit in 90-degree weather in full sun when you have a fever. (Well, I can’t…dunno about you.) Can’t bake cupcakes unless you want to infect your friends and loved ones.

So here is the only picture of what looked to be (through my window at least) the perfect summer weekend.

At least I have off Tuesday & Wednesday to make up for my craptastic weekend.

Happy Birthday Dad!

I’m not feeling too well today. My stomach is all gurgly and I’m freezing, even though the heat is on. Two pair of socks and my feet are still like ice. I hope to high Heaven that I’m not getting the flu — John’s graduation is Friday and his party’s on Saturday. I also have a candle party (groan) to go to at Tricia’s tomorrow night. Plus I REALLY don’t want to miss work. It’s making me grumpy — I’ve been short with the animals all night. I just booted Misty from the chair because she wouldn’t quit pawing at my hair.

Last night it snowed. Again. We got around 5 inches of the light, fluffy kind. We’re getting more tomorrow. If the temp was in the low 30′s, I’d be ok. But these teens and single digits — my body hurts from being cold.

I wanted to play Horizons — but I’m 500 in the authorization queue. And my eyes are so sleepy.

I think I’ll rest them just … for…….a…………..bit……………………………………………
