Potpourri

7 Oct

I think I actually need to cut these fingernails of mine.

Charlie is unimpressed.

For me, this is slipping into Howard Hughes territory. Plus, I’m typoing a LOT on the keyboard lately and it’s bugging.

This picture was taken Sunday night. I’ve since painted them teal.

What do you think of dark nail polish? Is it tacky or trashy? I think they’re fine but last week I encountered some … lascivious … comments about dark fingernail polish which left me a little bit skeeved out.

My 20 year (weep!) high school reunion is being planned. Kudos to the ones who pulled it together, because I think we had over 500 in our graduating class. Anyway, it’s going to be $78 PER PERSON. Is this normal? It seems really pricey to me. At $78 pp, I may have to break WM’s heart by not taking him. I know he’s been looking forward to it. ;)

I still miss my cat.

And finally, I want to thank you all for visiting. Commenters and lurkers, new folk and regulars, even those who don’t read at all anymore. I don’t have a niche topic or good traffic, but I love this odd little blog of mine. Thank you for taking the time out of your busy days to come by and share it.

In my last week of being 37…

>> I’ve stopped the nailbiting again. (Again. Again. Again.) It’s been two weeks this time, and if I get to a month, I’m going to treat myself to my very first manicure. I’m doing what I’ve done in the past but this time I’m going to keep them very short – just to the fingertips. Which is not long at all, but about twice as long as usual. Tonight I painted them a sparkly blue color.

>> I’ve started exercising. Just 20 minutes at a time. I have a few DVDs to choose from. I am sore.

>> I haven’t called an endocrinologist yet. Because I’m a scared little dork. I’ll get over it.

>> I’m enjoying Mountain Dew Throwback — in moderation. It really does taste better with sugar instead of high fructose corn syrup. Real sugar brings out the true flavor of the brominated vegetable oil and makes the Yellow No 5 sparkle!

>> Our surviving cat, Charlie, has seemed to absorb parts of Misty’s personality, notably the silent meow. It’s unnerving and comforting at the same time.

Stupid Beading Tricks: Bridesmaid earrings

9 Aug

T-minus 5 days. We bridesmaids are wearing black dresses, and since the colors are raspberry & lime green, we’re wearing green shoes. My shoes are actually David’s Bridal honeydew color. (David’s Bridal blows, by the way.)

So what about earrings?

I made ‘em! I wanted to have green earrings to match the shoes and the hair clip. Each earring uses 8 4mm Swarovski bicones (I used the Green Mix), one 6mm black Swarovski bicone, 4 jump rings and 9 head pins – one for each bead. I did a bunch of wrapped loops, put the bead on the rings, linked the rings together and here we go!

If my bamboo plant ever dies, my jewelry photography is up the creek without a paddle.

Because they’re for me, I cheaped out on the metal findings.

So here’s what’s left for me to do: Brow wax, glue on the fake nails, buy a shaper to get me into the dress (I should have ordered a 12 and had it taken in), get the gift and I think that’s it. Oh, and sell some plasma to pay for it.

Work. Stress. Nonbloggable. Happy? Monday.
