Friday Five – Annoyance

24 Apr

This week’s Friday Five Subject is Annoyance and OH BOY this is a GREAT day for this Friday Five subject matter!

****
1. What’s the most annoying sound in the world?
In the “office” behind me, there is a carnival wheel. At my job, sales representatives are always being rewarded for just doing their job various things. If they breathe show up sell certain products, they get to spin the wheel for cash prizes.

It’s an honest to goodness carny wheel, and has that very loud click each time a peg passes below the leather pointer. I don’t mind so much the spinning of the wheel, but sometimes people will play with it and slowwwly spin it so you hear the slow click of each peg as it gets slapped by the pointer. Or they’ll try to be cute and do a scratching motion with it like DJs will scratch a record. THAT is the most annoying sound in my world.

I’ve actually been on the phone and had to explain to customers/coworkers/corporate what that noise is in the background.

2. Which of other people’s mannerisms do you find very annoying?
The phrase, “I’m sorry for interrupting.” No, you’re not. Else you wouldn’t have interrupted in the first place. Because unless the building’s on fire, you can wait until I’m done talking to the person who was here before you.

3. What do you do that really annoys others?
Now that I’ve stopped biting my nails (though I’ve filed them down short) I drum them on my desk. That has to be annoying, though I try to stop when I catch myself.

4. In what way has your own behavior recently caused you annoyance?
There are people in my life who think I have to be constantly reminded to do things I KNOW need to be done. I know it’s my problem, because there are too many people in completely different spheres of my life doing this for it to be all of their problems. As a result, I’m constantly saying, “Yes, I know *this* has to be done.” “Yes, I know how to do that.”

I need to be more assertive. As in

“Yes, I’ve been doing this for years now…so I know the reports are due the first week of the month.”

or

“Yes, I know my paladin needs to stand in that spot to avoid the dragon. I’ve done this before.”

You get the picture.

5. Who’s the most annoying person you know?
Everyone in my life is practically perfect in every way. Seriously, Friday Five…are you trying to get us all disowned, divorced, and/or fired?

WM seems to annoy a lot of people (not me, though) so technically, literally, he is the most annoying person I know.

The most annoying person I don’t know in person is Paris Hilton. I blame her and her ilk for the “TAX THE RICH!!!” class warfare movement. Because she truly needs less money.

In fact, most of America’s modern famously rich families leave much to be desired, image-wise. Let’s do a word association…ready?

Carnegie: Institute, steel, philanthropy
Hilton: Crabs, Herpes, Jail, skank, “The Simple Life”, no panties…the list goes on and on.

See?

Can’t wait for the weekend. The weather’s supposed to be downright summery and Collingswood’s having a “Green Festival” tomorrow along one of the side streets. There will be food and music; therefore, I will be there.

I’ve also been doing my big biannual laundering/switching of seasonal clothes. It’s not exciting by any means, but it usually culminates in a nice tidy bedroom for about a month. ;)

List of 8s – I was tagged!

23 Apr

The always-fabulous & very inspiring Ella tagged me for this List of 8s…

8 Things I Am Looking Forward To

  1. Walt Disney World in May. It’s been too long since I’ve been to my Laughing Place.
  2. Hammering wire. I bought a little steel bench block off of eBay. Hammering wire work-hardens it, which makes sure whatever I create won’t easily get bent out of shape by day-to-day life.
  3. Getting a little house someday – even if I have to rent it. I sorely miss having a little outdoor space to my own.
  4. Job Security. It’s not here yet, but it’s been over 4 months without layoffs.
  5. The New Kids on the Block concert in June. Shut up.
  6. Getting a slightly larger table to work on. I’ve outgrown my little one.
  7. Learning to develop themes for WordPress and Blogger.
  8. Starting Yoga again. Mom & I might find a class this summer.

8 Things I Did Yesterday

  1. Got almost 8 hours of sleep.
  2. Scheduled 16 ad campaigns to the C-P website.
  3. Drank chocolate milk at lunch.
  4. Had my regular Wednesday night dinner w/Mom at Applebees.
  5. Went to an office supply store and spent $16 on crap I don’t need. But they had a wall of Sharpies with gorgeous color names. I bought a ‘Hibiscus Tea’ one.
  6. Healed a chaotic (yet fun) Obsidian Sanctum 10-person run in World of Warcraft
  7. Forgot to tweeze my brows.
  8. Fell asleep reading beading magazines.

8 Things I Wish I Could Do

  • Lose and keep weight off. I know how. I have no willpower.
  • Play the violin. Again.
  • Learn programming languages as quickly as the guys at work can.
  • Be independently wealthy.
  • Keep up with my social media better. I have separate groups of friends on Twitter, Facebook, this blog and my WoW blog.
  • Retire comfortably at 60.
  • Find a church I feel comfortable in. Recurring theme, I know.
  • Cook quick meals better. I’m good at the super-intricate stuff that takes six pots and 3 hours on a Sunday. I’m not good at 30 minute after-work meals.

8 Shows I Watch – I don’t watch a lot of TV!

  1. True Blood
  2. The Office

8 People I Tag

  1. D. Mo.
  2. Dr. Dave
  3. Dorene
  4. Erin
  5. Kristen
  6. LA Scene Tommy
  7. Liz
  8. Wandering Minstrel

And you! If you don’t have a blog and want to join in, comment below!

4 Photo Folder Tag

22 Jan

Hey! I’ve been tagged by the lovely Alicia from Oh2122! (Check out her Etsy shop!)

Here’s what to do:

1. Go to the the 4th folder where you keep your pictures on your computer.
2. Post the 4th picture in the folder.
3. Explain the photo.
4. Tag 4 fellow bloggers to join in the fun!

Mmm…ok. Fourth folder. Fourth picture. Oh my.

Boozy.

Every September there is a Wine and Jazz festival in Allaire State Park, NJ. (Yes! NJ has trees and parks and nature!) This past festival was the 2nd one WM and I attended.

So here I am in my summer finery, showing off what I thought was a great purchase…the wine glass holder that goes around your neck. It was great to carry the wine in, but I had trouble offering the glass to the vendors for them to fill. Maybe the ribbon was too short.

It was a gorgeous summer day filled with good wine, good music, and good company.

I’m going to tag Kristen, D.Mo, Ella and Erin. (Which reminds me, I have to do the 25 random things about me thing on Facebook – Erin tagged me for that.)

Thanks, Alicia!
