I’ve got the world on a string, sittin’ on a rainbow!

To review:

  • I was not laid off yesterday, nor was Coworker S. or Boss. The only downsides to that are 1) all of my work stuff - programming books, Kim Possible snowglobe, etc - is in my car trunk and 2) I did not plan outfits past yesterday.
  • On Monday, WM got a full-time job (w/bennies!) teaching high school history at a place about 15 minutes away, instead of the adjunct position 45 minutes away at Snooty McSnoot Military Academy
  • And…

    no jury duty today!

Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy jury duty. But today, I just want to go to work and concentrate on the fact that I still have a job, rather than sit in the courthouse remembering the looks on the faces of my coworkers as they were called into their managers’ offices. I hope I never experience another day like yesterday.

The way life is going, I bet Barack Obama will tell the world today that I’ve won his veepstakes and will be his running mate.

In any case, I have to put the days of depression eating and the day of celebration eating behind me and stop eating like a college student. (Cake for lunch? Oh, what the hell…) I have about 20 “Lil’ Green Patch” plants to accept in Facebook tonight and the Democratic National convention to get ready for next week. Barry, call me! ;)

RIP, LeRoi…thank you for the years and years of music and memories

    Would you like to play?

< yum Last night, as you know, since I’ve been babbling about it for MONTHS, was my Dave Matthews Band concert. (Note to self: better writing, fewer commas) I swung past the house around 6 to grab John. It’s fitting that I take him this time around — after all, it was his Dave Matthews Band CDs that I stole in the early days of my addiction.

It didn’t take much time to get to Camden at all, and we got a parking space ($15!!) close to the Tweeter Center. Although I was (and still am, yay!) on my healthy eating program, I had a panzarotti, which is a deep fried pizza turnover thing. John had a (not-so) jumbo hot dog. Naturally, I had to buy a tee shirt.

Now, I had purchased actual seat seats, but John’s girlfriend (!!) K, and her friend C, (no need to drag the innocent into my blog by naming them) also had tickets. But they had lawn seats. So, we took a blanket with, and grabbed a spot on the lawn to wait for them. (Thor says, “So we PAID for seat seats, but you sat on the lawn instead?” Yes, Thor, we did. Sorry. It’s not like we had front row seats, though.)

Opening act was N-E-R-D, which features a dude from the Neptunes. They were pretty good. But I was waiting for the main act.

DMB hit the stage at 8:05ish and opened with Granny, one of my preferred DMB songs. (I have a lot of favorites!) the 26,000 people there sprang to their feet. The lawn turned into a sea of bobbing heads, and a mysterious cloud of smoke hovered overhead. ;) I danced untnil my calves hollered in pain. Then I danced some more!

This time around, I knew all of the songs they played except for the new ones, which will be on an upcoming album. I wanted to hear 2 songs specifically, “Song that Jane Likes” (Dave’s sister is named Jane), and “Two Step.” STJL was the 6th song played, so I was thrilled. So thrilled that I audioblogged some of it! :)

I didn’t get my “Two Step” wish, but they did play “Crash” (another preferred song of mine) as the first song of the 2-song encore. That made me swoon. One moment, Dave’s voice soars, and the next it drops to a throaty growl that shakes me to my inner core.

    Wow.

Oh! Sorry! You’re still here! Where was I?

End of show. Gotcha. The show ended around 11 (last song was “Everyday”), and after an UBER-long wait in the parking lot, I got home a skosh after midnight. Happy, swoony, full of second hand smoke and thrilled that nobody peed nearby.

(Note for future Tweeter concerts…if we’re doing lawn seats, sit in the middle of the lawn, not against the wall. Wall attracts the urinators.)

A wonderful evening! And I liked John’s girlfriend, too.

Honey, honey, won’t you dance with me?

    Wt: 151.2. Shit.
Work Docket: Today I had my big weekly meeting. Still working on Project A, which launches on Monday. Starting Project Fun, which will launch in period 8, which is corporate-girl speak for August.
Lunch Plans: I BROUGHT a frozen diet lunch, but ended up going for pizza. As a result, I’m having a VERY light dinner.
Evening: I caught up on the 2 shows I DVR’d…”Arrested Development” and “Queer Eye for the Straight Guy.” Now I’m dangerously close to buying another domain name. ;)

    Kickin’ it old-school

I’m really excited about the concert tonight. This time I’m going with my brother, John, and I’m looking forward to not being sick at the show, like I was last year. (note to self: Neat having over a year of my life written out — easy to refer back to!)

Another difference is that this year we have actual seats rather than just lawn seats. So hopefully people won’t pee in my vicinity. ;)

Yesterday, Thor went to Lowes, bought the garden bricks, and edged/landscaped the lawn at the bottom of the lawn. It looks so much better. I can see how home improvement becomes an obsession.

Mood: A little blue (been fighting the blues, but not wanting to blog about them), yet excited about tonight’s show.

Work docket: It’s difficult for me to talk in-depth about what we’re working on, as I’ve mentioned before there is a ‘mole’ at work who tattles on my web site if I say anything remotely specific. On Tuesdays I do my weekly revenue numbers, plus the hit report for Wednesday’s big weekly meeting. This manager’s gig has become easier to handle, now that I have 7 months under my belt. I have a system for doing things, and I’m lucky enough to have a department who does great work in great time. I still worry about anything new that crops up, and my personnel skills aren’t the greatest, but I’m learning on the job. This week we’re working on a project that will launch Monday. Lots of little intricacies involved, and it will change how people surf the CPO web site.

There’s a free trade magazine that I get at work — they insist on sending me my ‘free’ subscription, so who am I to complain — that really pertains more to the Information Technology folks than to web folk like me. Dry, dry, boring, boring reading. What I’ve started doing is highlighting the terms that I don’t understand in the articles, and then going back and looking them up later. Proof that learning doesn’t stop, even if you’re over 30! (over 30…ugH)

Lunch: Day 2 of the renewed “Don’t-eat-so-damn-much” diet that did so well for me a little while back. Although I don’t write about it much, I’m pretty bummed that I put a chunk of weight back on. While I’m not 178 again, I’m guessing I’m in the mid 150s, whereas I was 136ish this time last year. But I’m still into Mediums and 10s, instead of the Larges and 12/14s I was in before. When I got this new job, I put my own self on the backburner, and slid into old habits. Fast food lunches, vending machine snacks, etc. It’s a failure that stings. The last person I want to be is the person (you know him/her) who CONSTANTLY talks about weight and dieting while they continue to eat the junk. So now I’m walking the walk, and aim to get into fighting shape by my cruise in October.

So for lunch, I’ll have a frozen meal (yesterday I had Healthy Choice Grilled Chicken Marinara) and some fruit salad that I chopped up Sunday. An oatmeal bowl for breakfast, and mozzarella string cheese sticks for morning and afternoon snacks. And plenty of water.

Afternoon plans: This category doesn’t really apply anymore, since I work until (at least) 5pm with the rest of y’all. Today, however, I plan to knock off at 4ish so I can come home and get some stuff done before the show. Namely, take Max for his rousing walk. I feel NO guilt about leaving early…I usually work 1-2 hours late every day anyway.

Evening plans: Dave Matthews Band show at the Tweeter Center tonight. Last year I hit paydirt, as many of the songs I liked were played. This year, I’m hoping to hear “Song that Jane Likes” and “Two Step.” This will be my third DMB show, which now makes DMB the band I’ve seen in concert the most. Which is a GOOD thing, as the prior band was New Kids on the Block. You may cringe, but I look fondly upon my NKOTB fandom…it was part of who I was, which was a teenage girl at the time. Don’t ever fault teen girls for loving the pop groups, as bad as the groups may be. It helps the girls pass into adulthood.

I’ll most likely retreat to bed upon arriving home.

Off to the showers. LONG day ahead!
