Dear NaNoWriMo

It’s over between us.

See, I was completely going to do 8K words this weekend. But between this blog, my WoW blog, the freelance job that might come up again this week (please?) and the rest of my life, I was running behind to begin with.

Then…he came along. And oh my gosh I haven’t had a weekend like this in a LOOONNG time.

I spent the whole weekend with him.

I went partying with friends…

I saw new species of weird, walrus-like men…

I was chased by giants…

And for the first time since February…

I levelled!

Anyway, remember that it’s not you, it’s me.

Maybe next year?

Friday 5 for November 14: Misuses

Just when I thought I had to tap my tin-foil hat theory about Catholic school uniforms to get some content for this blog…we’re all saved by the Friday Five!

1. When did you last use the edge of a coin (or a knife blade) as a screwdriver?
When I first moved into my Dee-luxe Apartment in the sky, I didn’t own a single tool. But I had butterknives!

2. When did you last use a wire coat-hanger to break into a car?
It was at least 6 years ago when I had my Peeling-Blue Dodge Neon. I used to lock my keys in the car on a regular basis, and it was sickeningly easy for me to pull the window open a but, and hook the door lock with the hanger. But I’d do it at least once every 3 months or so. Thanks to the keyfob lock on the Saturn, I haven’t had to do it since!

3. When did you last use food or drink as medication?
A bit of Bailey’s in coffee warms me up when I’m not feeling well. Not sure when I last did it though.

4. When did you last use your cellular telephone as a flashlight?
I had a bunch of change drop out of my car onto the ground one night last week. I have the Light application for the iPhone, so I fired it up and my pennies were found!

5. When did you last use a paper clip for any purpose other than to clip paper?
Within the past year, I demonstrated how I used to use paper clips for earrings back in the 80s.

I’ll be at GameStop

picking up my copy
with some sorrow
because I have to come straight back to work and toil until 5:30pm oh why did I take a day off for the Phillies parade because I know by the time I get home the servers will be clogged and I won’t see anything ’til at least Friday and all my unemployed guildmates will be 80 by then?

Thank you, Veterans

Veterans day never meant much to me as a kid other than a day off from school. Now I’m humbled and awed by the sacrifices our men and women in the military make for us. And I don’t even get the day off anymore!

My dad’s a Vietnam vet, my cousin served in Afghanistan, and my buddy came back last month from his second Middle East tour. I’m proud of all of them.

Thank you, all of you who have served or are serving, whether you saw action or not. Thank you for all you have done and still do.
