Stupid Beading Tricks: Inspiration

7 Jul

There are a LOT of beading magazines out there. And at one point I was buying every single one. That presented a storage problem here in my bento box sized apartment, so I had to take drastic measures.

Those drastic measures included buying a lime green binder and a bunch of plastic page protectors.

Now after I’ve read the magazines cover to cover and back again, I tear out the projects that I like the best and put them into my binder!

I also keep a notebook for the inspirations I get from everywhere else. If I see a pretty necklace or bracelet in a magazine, I cut it out and paste it into my notebook. I also sketch ideas in there. Some of my best (and worst) ideas come from my own doodling.

So now when I sit in front of my beads on Friday nights (a time I set aside for my crafty endeavors) and I’m drawing a blank, I have some pretty pictures to jump-start my brain!

You might want to check into something like Evernote,, which provides an online repository (duplicated on your computer) of all sorts of notes, links, scans, etc.

For example, if you happened to see something online that catches your fancy, you could copy the page to Evernote, or save a link to it.

(Obviously its benefits extend further: I keep electronic receipts there, as well as software registration and license codes, ideas for blog articles, research notes, resource lists…the possibilities are endless.)

    (And it’s free!)

I wish wish wish I could get into Evernote. I have it on the iPhone and I never, ever use it. That and Remember the Milk are apps that I KNOW I would help me out immensely. Remembering to use them is the sticky wicket.

By the way, I switched spam monitors from my beloved (but abandoned for by the dev since 1/09) Spam Karma to Akismet. Hopefully this’ll keep you out of the time-out corner.
