No no no no no. Leave the Sorcerer’s Apprentice alone!
Posted June 24th, 2010 by Kimberly Dowd(Warning: more profanity here than in the whole blog, less than what’s on a typical restroom wall)
Today, WM told me that before I had to get ready for work, I needed to Google “Sorcerer’s Apprentice Movie.”
Go ahead. Watch the trailer. I’ll wait.
What the hell, Disney? What the effing hell?
Why would you knowingly piss all over one of the most famous and brand-making images of your entire animation franchise?
Why would you tar the memory of this:

I once wanted this as a tattoo
By dressing up Nicolas Cage (?!??!?) as Harry Dresden and pairing him with a clone of 16-year-old Shia LeBoeuf for this pile of horseshit?

This shit ain't right.
There are two types of Disney fans: Those who know everything Walt would have wanted for his company even though they have never met him and those who roll their eyes at group 1. So help me, I don’t trot out Uncle Walt very often at all* but here goes:

Thank God I'm already dead.
WM: It can’t be worse than Haunted Mansion.
Me: @#^%^*&^@!^!!
WM: This is what everyone said about Pirates of the Caribbean.
Me: !$@$#%$!@$@%$#!
WM: But that movie had good actors. This has Nicolas Cage.
Me: @^%&^#@$%#&!!!!
What the hell is next? Lindsay Lohan as Ariel? Pete’s Dragon played by the GEICO gecko? Lindsay Lohan as Madame Mim?
When I’m sour at work today, you’ll all know why.
* I disapprove of the sales of Mickey Mouse branded drinking accessories, like shakers & martini glasses & jigs. I don’t think Walt would have wanted that. He’d have loved cigarette lighters though.
(Edited to remove an egregious use of an apostrophe. Bad me!)

I too, thought “What the @^%&^#@$%#&!!!!” when I saw the trailer on TV (a few nights ago?)
I am not opposed to Nic Cage in general, but I do not see him as a Disney-Movie character actor.
I do not hate movies, I actually LOVE movies… I just don’t always groove on the casting choices made for them. I think that production companies are more likely to go for “s/he has a big name” than “s/he fits the part”, and that once an actor/actress has a BIG movie, they tend to show up in many others, despite how UNREFINED their skills may be.
Anyway, I’ve already been too ranty in your comments (again).

Ann always gets invites to (sometimes red carpet) movie screenings in her e-mail. One day she was reading off the synopsis to the latest movie and then I asked who was in it.
Ann: “Nicholas Cage…”
Me: “No thanks.”

@pero Ranting is allowed! I was hopping around like Daffy Duck when I saw the trailer.
@Dave I’m darn sure our paper’s going to have tickets to the local screening and 2 will find their way to my desk due to the “Oh, Kim LOVES Disney” reputation I have. I…I…I can’t.

Glad you edited that apostrophe out; when I saw it in the RSS feed, I was almost as ranty as you are about the movie.
While I think the casting choices could have been better, they could have been worse (e.g., Shia LaBoeuf as the apprentice). And while I understand your objection to the whole idea of the movie, I think I’d object more if, say, Paramount were making it.

@Steve And last night I had just reread TJ’s “Walla” post and laughed my butt off. That’s what I get for mocking people…critted by an incorrect possessive.
I’m surprised @Dave let it go without mention.

Weird… it honestly never even occurred to me that this movie had ANYTHING to do w/ teh Disney movie of the same name. I thought it was just a random shitty Nicholas Cage film.

LOL! What Kestrel said!
I’ve known about this movie for a couple of years now. When I heard Nic Cage was linked to it I was concerned.
I like Nicolas Cage. He’s a good actor…as long as he plays a certain type of character. I enjoy his movies, but he does tend to be hit or miss.
As for this movie, I’m actually kind of looking forward to it. But I also looked forward to Haunted Mansion…
