Summer Vacation!
Posted June 13th, 2009 by Kimberly DowdOkay, fine. It’s another unpaid furlough week for me. This time, though, instead of having 5 weeks of lower paychecks, I’m taking the five days in a row & forgoing a paycheck. I have enough in savings to cover, which makes me a lucky girl.
Rather than thinking of this as the company not paying me so that they can 1) build a new conference room, complete with state of the art smartboard; 2) get flat panel TVs for the newsroom; 3) offer a $400 prize for a logo-creation contest OUTSIDE the company; 4) continue to employ unski—

KIM IS ANGRY!!!!!!!!
Oh. Wow. Sorry about that. Where was I?
Oh yeah! I’m on summer vacation this week! My goal is to cram as much school-is-out fun into nine eight days as I can. On the list is:
- Going to the beach with Mom
- Hanging out with Sharon, (formerly [former] Coworker S, but now she’s a friend) at her pool
- Water ice
- Blue Moon beer (with orange slice)
- Shopping a quaint “Main Street” town while carrying an iced latte
- Dying my hair blonde again
- Lunches with people whose schedules mine never seem to jive with
I kicked it off by going to PJ Whelihan’s with Sharon last night. We sipped beer, had bar food and realized we need to either go back to the Grog or go someplace more upscale. There were tons of little kids and older people there, which wasn’t very…barlike.
Today I napped. Yay summer.
Anyway, to get me into the summer frame of mind, here’s a summery video.
(heehee!)

You inspired me, and this afternoon I went to the Fourth Street Cafe and got coffee and walked around OC’s downtown for a bit. It was lovely.
I hope you have a great week!

One thing I really miss is Whelihans…. i used to meet a buddy in Haddonfield at Nero’s Cigars and afterwords we would go have a nightcap down the block at Whelihans. Great atmosphere and great food.

Aww Kim so sorry. My furlough was in May. I have a second one in July. Although it’s forced I am glad you have good plans.

Mmmmm, Whelihan’s and Buffalo Fries!!!! Now I’m hungry!
Good for you for doing something positive with this. It really sucks, that part doesn’t change, but you get a good thing with it and that says a lot about you!
