Stupid beading tricks: Mickey lanyard!

About six weeks ago we had a new security system installed at work and we were required to wear/carry an ID badge. Apparently we need new ways to keep an eye on the hundred fewer employees we have now than we had this time last year. (Note: no furlough programs or layoff rumors have been rumored…maybe we’re in the clear now?)

I had been clipping the stupid tag on my jeans or in my purse, but now that the Publisher and new Ad Director (he’s great!) are wearing them on lanyards around their necks, the corporate shill in me feels the need to do the same.

But I knew I could do better than an old college key lanyard or a piece of yarn. If I have to wear something to work, it’s going to be unique. And me. Which means nerdy and dorky at the same time.

Presenting..the Mickey lanyard!

Mickey Lanyard!

I used black, red and yellow beads which are Mickey Mouse’s primary colors. On their own they look nice, but they REALLY become magical when you attach them to the Mickey lanyard clip!

Swell!

Swell!

The silver Mickey is from a pair of earrings that I had but stopped wearing. I snipped off the loop that was soldered to it and filed it smooth. Two jump rings later and I have a lanyard clip!

Zip-a-dee doo dah! Zip-a-dee day! I'll be allowed in the building today!

Now that I know how many beads and how much wire it takes to make a lanyard, I owe one to a bloggy friend who asked for one ages ago. :)

Dream
I’m at Walt Disney World (big surprise) as part of a conference. The conference organizer (one of you blog readers) decides to cancel the whole conference so I have five days to spend at my favorite place in the world! Even though I end up falling out of the “Splash Mountain” log flume (this is a recurring dream of mine, falling out of the log flume boat as it goes down the big hill) I still have a great time.

Three years and fading away…

    Kim,

Do you just make jewelry for fun/personal satisfaction, or is there a web-site someone could shop your wares? My wife would absolutely love that lanyard.

Hi, Rob! Right now it’s just for fun. I’m skittish about sales at the moment because I’m still learning to make things that won’t break. :)
