Thank Goodness It’s The Friday Five!

Friday Five for November 7: The Middles

1. What usually marks the middle of your day?
Lunchtime!!! I take it late in the day though – closer to 2 pm. I’m never hungry at noon.

2. From whom (or to whom) was your most recent middle-of-the-night phone call?
Back in the day, our Circulation department used to call me to put a notice on the site if delivery was going to be off. That all stopped when corporate dictated a redesign that prevented us from having a section reserved for customer service alerts.

3. On what social, political, economic, or moral issue are you in the middle of the road?
Welfare/social programs. I’ve seen perfectly fine people who are able to work and don’t because they’re getting help. I’ve seen women with no job, no spouse, who keep having babies because they keep getting aid. My building has a lot of senior citizens in it. They pay about half the rent I do, because they get aid. When rent goes up, they complain that their rent credit better keep up. Many of them have power chairs and scooters. They brag about getting them FREE from Medicare. No, that scooter wasn’t free. I’m helping to pay for it.

These programs are nice to have for people who are truly in need. If I get laid off in December, I’ll definitely file for unemployment assistance if I get to that point. But I’ll actively work to find a job so I can get off of it ASAP.

4. How likely are you to give someone your middle finger?
Somewhat likely, especially when I’m driving. People here in NJ are adamantly against using turn signals. That irks me.

5. When were you last caught in the middle of a disagreement that really had nothing to do with you?

Disagreement? I can’t remember. But I’m usually cc’d on emails at work that have completely nothing to do with me. At this point, I’m the Grandmother Willow of the online department, so I think people feel the need to involve me out of respect or tradition or something.
