My paper, too, is going through layoffs, and though I'm safe for now, I'm saddened because it's not the same place. It's tough to be in a dying industry--even if your department is shielded. And the worst is when you tie up so much of who you are in that institution. I guess that's something to be said for not doing that. I feel for you. I've been there many times and for all intents and purposes, still am with my current employer up for sale. It sucks no matter what so best of luck to you and stay positive. You'll be alright. We plan on going garage sale-ing this weekend with kid in tow. Last weekend at a garage sale I bought Ann a Branson, MO coffee mug with her name on it.
