I give up. I’m officially in my January slump, where all creativity has gone out the window. I’m not alone, as I mentioned this at work yesterday and others agreed that there is definitely a creativity slump going around.
But this year’s a touch worse.
I was going through my iPod the other day in search of music to listen to. I settled on Dave Matthews Band. Again. While listening to my modern music (as opposed to my Rat Pack and Etta James) I realized that my “modern” music is 14 years old. The music from my “modern” swing band (Big Bad Voodoo Daddy) is over 10 years old. I need new music.
I haven’t beaded in over a month, due to a design that’s haunting my head that I can’t get to work in real life. I need to sit down and put something, ANYTHING on a string.
The last book I read was Eat, Pray, Love. I need to get something new to read, other than WM’s various history/religion nonfiction books.
Are you slumping too? What do you do?

I’ll think about music for you. Do you have Amy Winehouse’s album? Yes she’s a crack-whore, but if you like 60’s R&B… the album is quite honestly AmAZING.

Maybe you should come to Woodbury and see a wonderfully funny play that I directed. It opens tomorrow and runs thru next weekend. At least it you can laugh thru your slump. Let me know if you want some info about this.

This is part of the reason I took a week off from blogging. I was just…I dunno…out of it.
Usually at times like these I start listening to my “guilty pleasures” but I just needed something different. And with XM radio and over 4,000 songs on my iPod, I’ve been listening to Leo Laporte’s podcasts as of late. But I did download Limbeck’s last album–I used to work with lead singer/writer Robb–and it’s a great indie-rock change from everything else I have.
I’ve been XBOXing at night since, like you, my brain seems a little tired. Nothing like some mindless entertainment to keep me occupied

Check out the latest installment of LA Scene. I think there is that new breakthru band that might be around for a long time. I just awarded it my “Album of the Year” (shameful plug)

I heard that “Last of her Kind” by Sigrid Nunez was a really great book.
Have you read “The Time Traveler’s Wife,” (by Niffenegger… Audrey I think?)… it was *amazing*.
“Middlesex,” Jeffrey Eugenides.
“Secret Life of Bees,” Sue Monk Kidd.
“Jesus Land” by Julia Scheeres (this one was *really really* good
*laughing* at Dr. Dave’s “crack whore” comment re: Amy Whinehouse. He has some good music suggestions. I don’t know how many bands I’ve added to my playlist because of him. Pick his brain for music.
My new accidental discovery band is “The One AM Radio.” I stumbled upon their song “Mercury” & I swear… I found myself listening to it over & over again all day… kind of “pop” & yet strangely haunting.
pandora.com is a great site to use as a tool for discovering new music.
