Yeeeah.
Here’s my layman’s version of what went wrong - translated from the guy at the shop. In my car, a consistent amount of power is supplied to the blower fan. The knob that controls the fan speed interacts with the little credit-card-looking piece in the upper right hand corner of the picture. (That little piece actually sits behind the user interface.) When you turn the fan on low, that card only lets a small bit of the power through to the fan. When you turn it on high, it lets all the power out to the fan. Because of the electrical power that’s constantly being regulated, that piece gets hot. Mine got all warped and stopped working altogether (I guess it blocked all power?) Anyhoo, that little credit card piece doesn’t come on its own, it comes with the whole new AC/Heat control unit. So I have a new control unit in my car.
But you know what? I’m okay with it. I deposited the stimulus check this morning, so I still have a bitty bit of money left to blow on Rum and Ring Dings put into the savings account.
On a sickeningly-cute note, Ollie was groomed today for the first time. (Bad Cocker Spaniel owner that I am…I though I could take care of his haircuts myself.) It got to the point that I could actually ruffle the hair on his head between my hands and give him a mowhawk. It looked really cute. Now he still looks cute, but almost a bit too “Little Lord Fauntleroy” for my taste. He also smells like a cross between an air freshener and toothpaste (they brushed his teeth!).

yeah - car dealers’ notions of what constitutes a “part” is getting larger and larger. my wife broke the glass on her passenger-side rear view mirror, and they needed to replace the whole assembly… and given that it’s motorized and HEATED, it cost three-hundred-fifty-fucking dollars. criminals…
