The Eighth Annual Weblog Awards nomination process has started and will continue through January 11. Your vote doesn’t have to be for me. Why? Because 1) I don’t feel as if I write enough to win and 2) SXSW would probably not even allow me onto the conference site. There’s a caste system for nerds now.
I would, however, LOVE to attend BlogHer this year {in July!! in San Francisco!!!} and see if it’s really a way to empower female web writers or just a mommyblogger sorority meeting and/or a way to increase revenues for the women who thought up the idea of BlogHer. But three days of nothing but web talk in San Francisco in July with scads of free stuff to be received makes my geeky heart tingle. If only somebody would buy my damn house…
Back on topic…
Last year PostSecret (NSFW, at times) won weblog of the year, which is awesome, but usually it’s the really popular kids who always win. I mean, Perez Hilton won best GLBT blog. Perez Hilton is a gossip blog, and the only time his embraces gayness is when he outs gay celebrities against their will. Which, frankly, sucks. Yet he won because he’s popular and people laugh when he makes fun of celebrities’ children.
So this year, go to the site and vote for the blog that not everyone reads. Better yet, apply to be on the random panel of voters who narrows the reader votes down to the 5 finalists.
(And when you do vote, please vote for someone who’s really dedicated to their blog, and not somebody who collects paychecks from her blog yet only allows fawning comments and has been phoning it in for the last 5 years. Or an overinflated advertising-laden link site. Or Perez Hilton.)
Reminder: it doesn’t have to be for me. I don’t write the word “poop” enough in my blog to warrant being an award-winning blogger.

Honestly if I could do what Dooce does and be at home with my kid I so would.

Hey, you can nominate my blog under the “Best Writing of a Weblog” category. That would be really cool!

A friend of NNY’s when to BlogHer. She described the daytime sessions as productive, but she did confess - the night time is a HUGE PARTY!
